Inspiration & challenge
Aquarius challenges some of the deepest paradigms & structures & ways we talk about ourselves (straight after Capricorn taproot establishing structure, Aquarius the roots spread out not just one down, many in all directions/ plurality)
It asks us to step into some really imaginative new spaces (feeling the way). Aquarius has this duality to it, which all air signs do, of being bother about deep belonging in the collective, as well as deep individuality & becoming truly who we are. And that these two things are deeply connected! They are not polar opposites/at cross purposes. They are deeply entwined because by becoming ourselves we take our place & offer our unique piece of the ouzzle to the humanitarian project!
Thats a big quality of these new & full moons
As one of three air signs, Aquarius has both Gemini’s playfulness and Libra’s popularity.
As a fixed sign, Aquarius’ are tenacious and stubborn, much like other fixed zodiac signs.
Ruled by Uranus, the planet of unpredictable energy and rebellion, Aquarians are considered visionaries — able to think or ponder the future in very creative and insightful.
The three decans of Aquarius, all very airy & social, each bring unique traits to the innovative Aquarian archetype.
the First Decan (Jan 20-29), ruled by Uranus (classic Aquarius); The most “pure” Aquarius, embodying the core traits of innovation, rebellion, and eccentricity,
the Second Decan (Jan 30-Feb 8), Co-ruled by Mercury and Gemini, these Aquarians are highly intellectual, communicative, and curious, blending Uranian ideas with Mercurial quickness.
and the Third Decan (Feb 9-19), Influenced by Venus and Libra, this decan adds diplomacy, social grace, and a desire for harmony, making them more charming and relationship-oriented.
The Babylonians, who first named the zodiac signs, called Aquarius 𒀯𒄖𒆷, The Great One, and Gula, a giant being who poured overflowing vases over the mountaintops and irrigated the fields below. In some texts, Aquarius has also been associated with Enki and Ea.
The Aquarius Symbol and Its Meaning in Astrology | The Pagan Grimoire
The glyph representing Aquarius is depicted as water flowing equally, representing two planets: Saturn and Uranus. This means there are two coexisting personalities within an Aquarius.
Saturn governs authority, tradition, rules, while Uranus represents rebellion, originality, and independence. There is a duality within an Aquarius that must flow equally.
While Aquarius is an air sign, the symbol for Aquarius is the water bearer. The Aquarius constellation was associated with the God Ea, who is shown carrying an overflowing vase of water.
In Egypt, Aquarius became associated with the flooding of the Nile river, which was believed to occur when the Water Bearer dipped his pitcher into the river. The overflowing of the Nile coincided with the commencement of Spring, a time of growth.
For the Aquarian, this represents the search for knowledge and truth; the flowing of water represents the flowing of their energy, and their paradoxes and polarity.
The Water Bearer is also associated with healing and cleansing. The water Bearer is a symbol of service in the Zodiac, and Aquarius thrives under this symbol.
Why is the symbol of the air sign water-based?
The word “Aquarius” has Latin roots, meaning “water-carrier,” represented by the vase of water. Though this can be confusing, as Aquarius is an air sign, not a water sign. The water can be filled and spilled, but the Aquarius is carrying it, therefore, not touching it.
The water in the vase is a representation of emotions. As an air sign, Aquarius is communicative, but through their vase of water. They can carry others’ emotions, or the Aquarius can pour out the water, signifying the transmittance of knowledge and feeling.
