Seeing the old with new eyes

Swirling whirling clouds of past, present, future
mixing and merging time.
flowing back into an old place
finding things I’d never seen before.
Getting off the arterial roads
And beyond the back streets
there’s golden fields.
looking up above the houses.
there are trees all around here.
Just north a bit are some of the oldest oaks in the country.
Honeywood and Old Knobbly
And rivers!
Not just the estuary of the Thames
There’s the Roach and roch-ford
The Crouch slouching through
Hull-bridge and Fam-bridge
with a ford at low tide.
Where my dad once swam across
when I was Young.
And There’s More than just my history.
One of The longest coastlines
A haven for yachts
there’s echoes of smuggling all around.
And Battles-bridge With its mills now full of antiques.
And where our welsh love chairs found us
and made their way back home.
And there’s life here still
teeming wetland nature all around.
In the creeks and islands
mudflats And salt marshes
egrets Swans and geese.
cockles, clams and eels.
The North Sea
I grew up here and never before saw so much of this.
This has been a journey to a new and old place
It’s amazing what you can see when you open your eyes
to find anew this place where my life started
as my parents draw near the end of theirs

Blue Monday

New Order
How does it feel
To treat me like you do?
When you’ve laid your hands upon me
And told me who you are?
Thought I was mistaken
I thought I’d heard your words
Tell me, how do I feel?
Tell me now, how do I feel?
Those who came before me
Lived through their vocations
From the past until completion
They’ll turn away no more
And I still find it so hard
To say what I need to say
But I’m quite sure that you’ll tell me
Just how I should feel today.
I see a ship in the harbor
I can and shall obey
But if it wasn’t for your misfortune
I’d be a heavenly person today
And I thought I was mistaken
And I thought I heard you speak
Tell me, how do I feel?
Tell me now, how should I feel?
Now I stand here waiting.
Thought I told you to leave me
While I walked down to the beach
Tell me, how does it feel
When your heart grows cold?
